PITTSBURGH--Pitt's softball team resumes action this weekend with a noon doubleheader against Syracuse on Saturday, April 26, at Trees Field. Pitt enters the weekend with a 27-18 overall record and 10-6 in Big East play.
The Panthers are coming off a 3-1 home weekend, where they swept Seton Hall and split with St. John's. In the win over the Red Storm, Pitt earned its 10th conference victory of the season to tie the 2006 record for Big East wins in a season.
Additionally, freshman pitcher Cory Berliner (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) won her 15th game of the season, which tied the single-season wins record.
The Panthers are led by junior Samantha Card (Miami, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes/Florida International) with a .383 batting average on the season, while hitting .460 in league action. Senior Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) is also above a .400 batting average in Big East play and leads the team with 38 RBI overall.
Last year, Pitt was swept by the Orange (18-26, 9-7 Big East) after scoring five runs in each game. In the overall series, the Panthers and Syracuse are even at seven wins a piece.
