Softball Announces Freshmen Class of 2010

PITTSBURGH—Head Softball Coach Holly Aprile announced the signing of two student-athletes during the fall signing period. Joining the Panthers for the 2010 season will be Emily Nowicki and Krista Rodgers.
Local, Nowicki (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) is a speedy left-handed slapper and a versatile utility player. At GCC, Nowicki batted .460 and was an all-region pitcher with an 11-1 record as a sophomore. As a junior she hit .631 (41-65), recording a hit in all 19 games played, while earning all-section honors as an infielder. Nowicki is a member of the N.J. Breakers coached by Rich Houston and her father Ed Nowicki was a Pitt baseball player who graduated in 1986.
Rodgers (Loxachatchee, Fla./Seminole Ridge) is a talented outfielder, who received team MVP honors for the 2006-07 season. A Palm Beach Post All-Area first team honoree, she held a .543 batting average with four home runs and 48 extra base hits in the past two seasons. She is also a member of the Davie Power-Black travel ball team coached by Steve Nicastro.
Both signees are involved with other extracurricular activities and sports at their respective high schools while maintaining excellent GPAs. Nowicki plans to study biology and chemistry, while Rodgers intends on majoring in either business or medicine.
