LEXINGTON, Ky.—Junior Michelle Rossi of the women’s volleyball team was selected to the America Volleyball Coaches Association Northeast Regional honorable mention, as announced by the AVCA.
Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) earned her first nod from the AVCA, and was one of 11 Big East players mentioned on the all-regional ballot.
“This is a great honor for Michelle,” said head coach Toby Rens. “It’s good to see that all of her hard work and effort was rewarded. She’s very talented and deserving of this award because she always gives so much of herself for the team. I’m very happy for her.”
Following the Panthers upset over Cincinnati in the Big East Championship a few weeks ago, Rossi earned another first as she was honored on the all-tournament team. She averaged 4.11 digs per set in the matches against the Bearcats and Louisville, that weekend.
Rossi recorded a match-high 21 digs against Cincinnati, which was her ninth contest of the season with 20 or more digs. The following night, she led all with 16 digs.
On the year, Rossi tallied 478 digs for a 4.16 dpg average, placing second in the Big East. She ended her junior season with 1,530 career digs, ranking second on the all-time career list.
The Panthers finished the year 17-14 and 8-6 in the Big East.
