PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Senior Kelly Campbell garnered Big East Player of the Week accolades after leading the Pitt women’s volleyball team to a sweep in conference play over the weekend, announced league officials Monday. This is Campbell’s first honor of the season and the second of her career.
“I’m very happy for Kelly,” said head coach Toby Rens. “Her commitment, dedication and work ethic has really paid off for her and this team. She is surrounded by great players that help bring the best out of her every day in practice.”
Pitt defeated DePaul (3-2) and Notre Dame (3-1) in a pair of road wins over the weekend. During those victories, Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) posted a .341 hitting clip, 38 kills, 16 digs and five blocks.
In the Blue Demon contest, she recorded a match-high 16 kills against DePaul, including seven kills to lead Pitt’s turnaround in the third set after trailing 2-0 in the match. The next day, Campbell recorded a season-high 22 kills and 10 digs in the Notre Dame match for her eighth double-double of the season.
“It’s great that she received this award coming off a weekend where we had great success as a team,” added Rens. “Kelly would be the first to say that the success of our team is what matters most to her.”
On the year, Campbell leads the squad in kills (273) and aces (14).
Pitt (12-8, 5-1 Big East) hosts a mid-week, non-conference match against Youngstown State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Fitzgerald Field House.
