Dooley And Rossi Earn All-San Diego Invitational Honors

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--Sophomores Meagan Dooley and Michelle Rossi earned All-San Diego Invitational Team honors, as the Pitt women's volleyball team swept Cal State Northridge, 3-0, in the final match of the San Diego Invitational at Jenny Craig Pavilion. Pitt was victorious with scores of 30-19, 30-28 and 30-26.
Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) led the team with a .307 hitting percentage and 41.5 points during the San Diego Invitational. She also recorded 34 kills and 13 blocks.
Pacing the Panthers (6-7) in digs, Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) tallied a team-leading 61 on the weekend. She also added three assists in the three matches.
During the CSNU matchup, Rossi had game high 21 digs, while Dooley chipped in 14 kills. Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) tallied a game-high 15 kills and added seven digs, while senior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) posted 11 kills and six digs.
Freshman Emily Burke (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) led the offensive pursuit with 47 assists, recording a 10.33 average on the weekend.
Pitt held the Matadors to a .167 hitting clip, including a .106 attack in game three.
The Panthers opened the match with a 3-1 lead, after Burke set middle hitter Dooley up for a quick kill in game one. Pitt extended its lead to 24-18 before Cal State would take a timeout. Following the break, Andreyko and Campbell recorded back-to-back kills to force another timeout. The Panthers then won the next three of four points for the victory.
In game two, there were 16 ties and 10 lead changes before Pitt would win the two-point match. The final tie of the game was at 27-27 following an attack error by the Matadors. Pitt then took a one-point lead after another CSNU attack error.
Campbell and junior Jessica Moses (North Olmsted, Ohio/Lutheran West) denied an attack for the 29th point after a timeout, while Campbell's kill sealed the deal for Pitt in a 30-28 win. Campbell recorded eight kills and Dooley added five.
Next, Burke assisted all 15 of Pitt's attacks in game three, while Andreyko led all with five kills in the four-point victory.
The Panthers open their conference slate at the Fitzgerald Field House on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. against Notre Dame, which will be a CSTV broadcast.
