PITTSBURGH - The Pitt baseball team (24-21, 13-7 Big East) will attempt to lock in a bid to the Big East Tournament when they host Rutgers (31-16, 16-5 Big East) this weekend in a three-game series at Trees Field.
The Panthers need just one Big East victory to solidify a spot in the Big East Tournament, held May 22-26 at KeySpan Park in Brooklyn, N.Y. Currently, Pitt sits in fourth in the latest league standings while Rutgers is tied for first with St. John's. There are six regular-season Big East games remaining for the Panthers.
Pitt is expected to pitch Rob Brant (JR/Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) on Friday night, Paul Nardozzi (SR/Victor, N.Y./Victor) on Saturday and Nate Reed (FR/Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) on Sunday.
This week, Pitt picked up two road victories with a 6-5 win at Central Michigan on Tuesday and a 9-0 shutout against the Chippewas on Wednesday.
Game times for the weekend action will be Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at noon. Live stats, as well as postgame audio can be found on www.PittsburghPanthers.com.
