Feb. 16, 2007
HARTFORD, Conn. - Pitt's women's basketball team (20-5, 8-4 Big East) will be looking to hand No. 4 Connecticut (23-2, 12-0) its first conference loss of the season Saturday when the Panthers take on the Huskies at Noon at the Hartford Civic Center. The game is scheduled to be broadcast by Big East TV on FSN Pittsburgh.
With Pitt's 55-44 win over Cincinnati on Tuesday night, the Panthers extended their win streak to five and reached the 20-win plateau in the regular season for the first time since 1980-81. With four games remaining in the regular season, Pitt is just two wins away from tying a school record for victories with 22, which was reached last season.
Against Connecticut, the Panthers are 9-33 all-time with the Huskies winning the last 20 meetings. Pitt's last win over Connecticut was a 76-74 victory on Feb. 24, 1993. This is also just the second time the teams have met at the Hartford Civic Center. Pitt sits at No. 19 in the latest RPI rankings while Connecticut is at No. 4.
Pitt's game at Connecticut will also be streamed live on the Big East website at www.BigEast.org and can be heard live on www.PittsburghPanthers.com as a part of All Access or locally on FOX Sports Radio 970 AM with Greg Linnelli and Jen Tuscano calling the action.
