
Shavonte Zellous Named Big East Player of the Week

PITTSBURGH - Pitt junior guard Shavonte Zellous has been named the Big East Player of the Week, announced the league office Monday.
The honor is Zellous' (Orlando, Fla./Jones) first of the season and second of her career as she was also awarded player of the week last season.
Zellous averaged 20.7 points per game over the week including a game-high 30 points at No. 3 Maryland. She shot 11 of 23 from the field and was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line.
Zellous was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Fifth Third Classic at Marshall University Nov. 30-Dec. 1, after scoring 14 and 18 points respectively over Harvard and Marshall. Against the Thundering Herd in the championship game, Zellous reached the 1,000-point milestone for her career making her the eighth fastest in Pitt history.
Last season's Big East Most Improved Player was also named to the 2007-08 Preseason All-Big East team by league coaches and was named to the CSTV.com Preseason All-America team.
