Women's Volleyball Slips At USF, 3-1

TAMPA, Fla.--In a close match on the road, senior Diana Andreyko moves into second place on the all-time kills list, as Pitt's women's volleyball team falls 3-1 to USF this afternoon. The Panthers slipped with scores of 28-30, 28-30, 30-26 and 24-30.
Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) become the solo owner of second place in career kills when she recorded a team-high 15 kills in the match. With 1,693 kills she needs just 122 kills to tie record holder Ann Marie Lucanie's (1990-93) total of 1,815 kills.
In the match, Andreyko also recorded eight digs, while sophomore Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) led the team with 16 digs.
Junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Pacific) and sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) added 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
The Panthers (11-10, 5-3 Big East) took an early 0-2 deficit in the contest, losing games one and two by two points.
In its sole win of the match, junior Melissa Stadelman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) posted a .750 hitting clip, as she was 3-4 and tallied a dig in the game three. There were six ties in the game, but the one lead change was recorded when Stadelman tallied a kill to give Pitt a 9-8 lead. The Panthers then went on to the victory in the contest.
After trailing in game one, Pitt took a 25-23 lead off a bad USF (12-5, 4-3 Big East) set. However, the Panther would soon trail 27-25 following two aces from the Bulls.
Later in game two, Pitt led by as many as five, 17-12, off a kill from junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton). In the match Taurance was 6-7 in attacks with an .857 hitting percentage.
As the game progressed the Panthers would take a 25-20 lead following a timeout, but the Bulls would go on an 8-3 run and win the game.
In the final game of the match, Pitt tallied a .256 hitting percentage to USF's .286, as Campbell led the Panthers with four kills in the match.
Pitt returns to Fitzgerald Field House on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m., in a matchup against Robert Morris.
