TAMPA, Fla.-The University of Pittsburgh softball team dropped its doubleheader against South Florida, this afternoon, at USF Softball Field. The Panthers fell 5-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two, slipping to 27-22 on the year and 8-8 in the conference.

In the day's first game the Panthers placed runners in scoring position in three of the first four innings, but left everyone stranded.

Pitt's best opportunity to score was in the sixth inning, when juniors Morgan Howard (Wexford, Pa./Allegheny) and Joey Scarf (Humble, Texas/Humble) led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Howard moved to third due to a bouncy ball to the second baseman but wouldn't advance home after a fly ball and a ground ball tallied the final two outs.

The Bulls scored one run in the fourth inning and rallied four more in the fifth off three hits, aided by two wild pitches.

Junior Laura Belardinelli (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) took the loss for the Panthers, giving up three earned runs and eight hits.

Later in game two junior Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, Texas/Grapevine) worked three innings, allowing seven runs off six hits.

A five-run first inning mounted the Bulls victory, while Pitt tried to answer in the fifth inning, as junior Sheena Hellon (Sacramento, Calif/Cordova) led off with a double to left field. Hellon advanced to third after senior Lisa McGregor (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford Senior) grounded out to the short stop. Unfortunately, Hellon was left on base after a strikeout and another groundball.

Pitt travels to Louisville on Sunday, April 23, for a doubleheader slated for an 11 a.m. start.
