PITT VOLLEYBALL TO HOST LONG ISLAND IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCH

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt volleyball team has returned home after two grueling road matches last weekend, both extending into five games. The Panthers (17-7, 6-3 Big East) will host Long Island (17-9, 4-0 NEC) on Friday before traveling to Seton Hall (13-11, 2-6 Big East) on Sunday.
Offensively, Pitt's outside hitters have stayed strong in recent weeks. Junior Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) leads the team with a 4.08 kills per game average. Sophomore Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne) is coming off her best performance to date with 36 kills against Syracuse last week, and freshman Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) is averaging 3.13 and continues to help the Panthers' lineup in every game.
Pitt's Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) leads the team in blocking and is in the nation's top 25 standings as well. She's averaging 1.49 blocks per game and is fourth in the Big East standings. Freshman Kim Kern (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee) continues to also provide solid defense, averaging 1.40 blocks per game.
Senior Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) remains the Panthers' leading setter with a 12.06 assists per game average. She also still holds the team's top hitting percentage at .326. Libero Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) leads the team in digs with 345 for a 3.97 average.
Long Island is currently first in the nation in service aces, averaging 2.66 per game. They have a .234 hitting percentage compared to their opponents' .163. Leading the team in kills is junior Martina Wagner with 467 total this year. She's averaging 5.25 kills per game and 3.24 digs per game. Lindsey Patty has contributed 873 assists this year, averaging 11.34 per game, and Shelby Heggie leads the team in block with 74 total for a 0.82 average.
The Pirates have a .198 hitting percentage compared to their opponents' .211. Freshman libero Allie Matters leads the team in kills with a 3.63 average and 294 total this year. Defensively, the Pirates are led by Jessica King who has a 1.24 average and 52 total blocks. Setter Brittany Rahrer is averaging 12.58 assists per game and has 994 to date.
Friday's match is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House, and Sunday's match at Seton Hall will be at 2 p.m.
