Volleyball Wins Third Straight Match With Sweep of Duquesne

PITTSBURGH - Playing its seventh consecutive match away from the Fitzgerald Field House to start the 2005 season, the Pitt volleyball team hit .336 and swept host Duquesne, 3-0, for its third straight win and fifth on the year.
The Panthers (5-2) won the first two games by scores of 30-22 and 30-20 before finishing the Dukes (3-3) with a 31-29 win in the third set. Pitt led in every statistical category in improving its all-time record against Duquesne to 37-2.
Sophomore Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was a successful option for the Panthers on the outside all evening and finished with a match-high and career-high tying 22 kills with just three errors in 40 attempts for a .475 hitting percentage. She added three assists, two service aces, four digs and a block for a total of 25 points.
Also contributing to the Panther offense was senior Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy), with 16 kills, a .343 hitting percentage and nine digs. Junior setter Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) hit 556 with six kills and one error in nine attempts, but added a match-high 44 assists, eight digs and four block assists.
Senior libero Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) inched closer to 2,000 career digs with a match-high 17 on the evening and added a career-best eight assists. Freshman middle hitter Jessica Moses (North Olmsted, Ohio/Lutheran West) had her best defensive match at the net with six blocks and two digs.
Duquesne was led by Diana Wuebker with 14 kills and a .565 hitting percentage but the Dukes could manage just a .134 clip as a team.
The Panthers will host the Pitt Invitational this weekend against Maryland, American and Miami (Ohio) at the Fitzgerald Field House.
