Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat Florida State, 3-2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Pitt volleyball team lost the first set to host Florida State but came back to win a 3-2 decision over the Seminoles at the FSU Invitational. Sophomore Diana Andreyko recorded a school-record-tying eight service aces.
Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) tied former Pitt player Wendy Hatlestad's record and added 17 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Senior outside hitter Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) had a team-best 19 kills and added 14 digs to join Andreyko with double-doubles.
After the Seminoles (1-2) won the first set by a score of 30-19, Pitt came back to win the next two games, 30-16 and 30-25. FSU tied the match with a 30-24 win in game four but the Panthers (4-2) won the fifth and final set, 15-13, to finish second at the tournament.
South Carolina finished in first place with a perfect 3-0 mark, followed by Pitt with a 2-1 record, Florida State at 1-2 and Mercer with an 0-3 mark.
The Panthers were also led by junior setter Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) with 54 assists and 12 digs for a third double-double, while freshman Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) added six kills, 15 digs, three blocks and two service aces. As a team, the Panthers had 13 aces. Despite being outhit, Pitt was able to get key kills from Andreyko, Ullery and sophomore middle Ashley Creighton (Brandon, Manitoba/Crocus Plains). Creighton finished with nine kills and a team-high four blocks.
Florida State was led by Kristen Rust with 19 kills and 12 digs, while Summer Weissing had a match-high 27 digs. Pitt opens up the home season this coming weekend at the Pitt Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 9-10 against Maryland, Miami (Ohio) and American.
