TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Pitt volleyball team bounced back from a 3-1 loss to South Carolina earlier in the day with a 3-0 sweep of Mercer at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Panthers (3-2) won by scores of 30-25, 30-28 and 30-21 to improve to 1-1 at the tournament with a match against host Florida State tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. Pitt outhit Mercer (2-3), .163 to .058 for the match.
Leading the way offensively was sophomore Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) with 17 kills, two assists, two service aces and four digs. Senior Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) had her best effort of the young season with a match-high 20 digs in three games.
Also helping the Panthers' effort were freshmen Stephanie Ross (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne), with seven kills, 15 digs and three blocks, and Jessica Moses (North Olmsted, Ohio/Lutheran West), with seven kills and three blocks.
Julie Darty led the Bears with 12 kills and eight digs, while Pitt senior Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) was near a double-double with nine kills and eight digs.
NOTES: Freshman setter Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) earned her first start of the season and had 25 assists, four digs and two service aces in the victory...junior Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) recorded 12 assists and three digs in one set.
