Pitt's Adam Graessle Named a Ray Guy Award Candidate

Pitt junior punter Adam Graessle was named today to the 40-player watch list for the Ray Guy Award, annually presented to the nation's top collegiate punter by the Greater Augusta Sports Council.

The Ray Guy Award winner is selected by a national committee made up of sportswriters, college football coaches, sports information directors, former punters and members designated by the Greater Augusta Sports Council. This year's winner will be announced December 8 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla.

Graessle (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) ranks eighth nationally this week with a 45.3-yard punting average. On the year, he has punted 12 times for 544 yards and had a season-long punt of 67 yards at Ohio.

Graessle earned first team All-Big East last season after leading the conference and ranking 13th nationally with a 43.3-yard average. He had the longest punt in the Big East last year, booming a 79-yarder versus Boston College.

Pitt will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln this Saturday, Sept. 17, at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). The game will be an ABC telecast shown in Pittsburgh by WTAE-TV, channel 4.
