PITTSBURGH-One of the most productive pass-and-catch duos in the country last year, Pitt quarterback Tyler Palko and wide receiver Greg Lee are receiving plenty of national attention heading into the 2005 season.
This past week three prestigious national awards -- the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Biletnikoff Award and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award -- took note of Pitt's tandem with their respective preseason "watch lists."
Palko and Lee, both juniors, were named to the 40-player watch list for the Walter Camp Player of the Year honor. Additionally, Palko was named one of 33 candidates for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and Lee is one of 31 players receiving preseason consideration for this year's Biletnikoff (top receiver) honor.
Pitt has extensive history with two of the awards. Receiver Larry Fitzgerald was the 2003 Walter Camp Player of the Year, while running back Tony Dorsett (1976) and defensive end Hugh Green also earned the honor. Pitt is the only school to have multiple winners of the Biletnikoff Award. Larry Fitzgerald won it in 2003 and Antonio Bryant was honored in 2000.

Both players were named to the 2004 All-Big East Team selected by conference coaches.
Entering its final week of training camp, Pitt will open the 2005 season under new head coach Dave Wannstedt at Heinz Field on Sept. 3 versus Notre Dame. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. and be a national ABC telecast.
