Pittsburgh Gymnastics Places Second at Home Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH-The Pittsburgh gymnastics team placed second on Saturday night in its first home quad meet of the season. The Panthers scored 191.65 points, trailing behind Michigan State University with 194.025. Placing third was Bowling Green University with 191.325 points and coming in fourth place was James Madison University, scoring 185.075 points.
Placing first in the all-around competition was sophomore Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) with 38.75 points. On the floor exercise Arlotta tied for first place with 9.825 points, her second week in a row placing first on this event. Arlotta also placed second on the uneven parallel bars scoring a 9.85, a season-best score. Freshman Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) also placed in the top ten on the bars with the score of 9.75, making this a season-high score for her on this event.
Freshman Cassie Minick (Potomac, Md./Richard Montgomery) and teammate Leila Tait (Naples, Fla./Pittsford Sutherland) tied for fourth place on the balance beam with 9.725s from the judges. The score was Minick's best as a collegiate gymnast and Tait?s season best as well.
The Panthers will host a senior recognition meet on Saturday March 5, against George Washington and Wilson College. The meet will take place at the Fitzgerald Field House, beginning at 7 p.m.
