PITTSBURGH - Pitt head volleyball coach Chris Beerman has announced the signing of two recruits to National Letters-of-Intent for the 2006 season. Joining the Panthers will be middle hitter Meagan Dooley and libero Michelle Rossi.
Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was named the 2005 Greater Miami Conference Athlete of the Year, becoming only the second Lakota West student-athlete to earn that honor. She additionally earned all-state honors as a senior and was named All-GMC all four years, including three first-team nominations from 2003-05.
Dooley plays club volleyball for Team Z out of nearby Cincinnati, Ohio, and helped her squad to a third-place finish at the national championships in the 17-open division, earning all-tournament honors in the process.
Rossi (Independence, Ohio/Padua) joins the Panthers for the 2006 season as a libero, hoping to replace Pitt's all-time digs leader Megan McGrane. Rossi is a three-time Padua High MVP, three-time All-North Coast League selection and an all-district honoree. The 5-4 libero holds Padua's records for career kills, digs and aces, averaging 3.5 kills and 4.7 digs per game as a senior.
Rossi has played for the Cleveland Volleyball Company 18s club squad since she was a sophomore, and played as a member of the Ohio High Performance Team which finished third nationally in 2003.
"We're excited about having Meagan and Michelle commit to our program," Beerman said. "We expect both to make immediate contributions to Pitt next season because of their background. Both student-athletes are proven winners."
The Panthers have enjoyed an 84-39 record over the past four seasons with two NCAA Tournament appearances, a Big East title in 2003, and three 20-win seasons.
