Sofball Announces Signees For 2007 Season

PITTSBURGH-Pitt Softball Head Coach Michelle Phalen announced the signing of three student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent for the 2007 season: Alex Shoemaker, Megan Livesey and Kayla Zinger. The trio represents three different states: Virginia, New Jersey and Arizona.
Hailing from Hampton, VA, Shoemaker plays both shortstop and third base for Grafton High School. She was selected to the all-district and all-region teams as well as being named the 2005 Virginia State Player of the Year. A member of the Virginia Legends travel team, Shoemaker signed with Pitt after considering Virginia Tech and North Carolina State.
Livesey plays both third base and outfield for Montclair Kimberley Academy (N.J.). She is a two-time Newark. Star Ledger All-County selection, three-time N.J. Parochial Class B state champion and a three-time all-conference honoree. She finished the 2005 season with a .395 batting average, scored 30 runs and drove in 25 RBI. A native of Livingston, NJ, Livesey is a member of the NJ Pride Gold travel team.
Zinger is a native of Phoenix, AZ where she attends Sunnyslope High School. As a pitcher, last year, Zinger recorded a 0.67 ERA and earned first team All-State honors. She was also named to the All-Skyline Region team three times. Zinger, who also plays first and third base, carries a 4.0 GPA and was inducted into the National Honor Society.
Pitt finished its 2005 fall ball season with a 9-1 record and will open its 2006 campaign at the Florida Atlantic Tournament on Feb. 10. Pitt returns 18 players from last season, including four seniors.
