PITTSBURGH--Assistant softball coach Holly Aprile will be one of six members of the Class of 2005 to be inducted into the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame during a dinner held at the UMass Campus Center this Friday, Oct. 7.
Aprile played softball at UMass from 1989-92 and was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year in 1989, A-10 Pitcher of the Year in 1992, A-10 Tournament MVP in 1990, and the A-10 Tournament's outstanding pitcher in both 1989 and 1992. She was a member of the 1992 ECAC All-Star team and was also named to both the All-Northeast Region team and All-New England team on two occasions. Aprile had success in the classroom as well, as she was named to the 1992 A-10 Academic All-Conference team.
As a pitcher, Aprile finished her career with a then-school record 77 victories, which now-ranks second. While playing for Massachusetts, Aprile was a four-time Atlantic-10 All-Conference performer, a three-time A-10 Player of the Year, and a third team All-America selection in 1992. As a senior, she boasted a 1.19 ERA, allowing just 61 hits in 94 innings, while striking out 53 batters in an 11-3 season. On offense, she held a .333 batting average, hit nine doubles, six triples and two home runs, driving in 19 runs.
Aprile led Massachusetts to four Atlantic-10 titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances and the school's first NCAA College World Series trip in 1992. Aprile still ranks among UMass' top-10 in 17 single-season record lists and 15 career charts. She graduated from UMass in 1993 with a degree in Sport Management.
With the addition of Aprile, the Hall of Fame membership will increase to 79. In all, 48 nominations were received for consideration this year.
