The Panthers went on to claim the tournament title after moving past California (Pa.), 7-3, in the championship game on Sunday afternoon. Connor (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) hit a two-run home run in the first inning and, then, a three-run homer in the seventh, collecting six RBIs off 3-4 batting in the game. In the semifinals against Gannon, pitcher Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, Texas/Grapevine) shined from the mound fanning three batters in the 9-1 win. At the plate, Dignon was a perfect 4-4, scored two runs and drove in two runners. Both Jessica Thomas (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and Sheena Hellon (Sacramento, Calif./Cordova) were 1-2 at-bat, scored twice and collected a RBI.
Action began on Saturday, as the Panthers dropped a 3-0 game to Gannon. Pitt rebounded in the bottom half of the doubleheader and defeated California (Pa.) 4-0. Belardinelli pitched all seven innings in the win and Hellon hit a two-run homer.
Pitt will resume action and open its 2006 schedule in the Florida Atlantic Invitational from Feb. 10-12.
