PITTSBURGH - After signing autographs for Panther fans in the Petersen Events Center lobby, the Pitt women's basketball team headed upstairs to the court and scrimmaged 20 minutes for the first look at the 2005-06 squad.
The Blue team won the scrimmage by a score of 35-13, but several of the team's 11 players played on both sides.
Sophomore forward Vika Sholokhova (St. Petersburg, Russia/Sacred Heart [NJ]) led all players with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, and added eight rebounds, an assist and a steal in 19 minutes of action. Preseason All-Big East Team member Marcedes Walker (Philadelphia, Pa./University City) posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
"I thought the event was a big success," head coach Agnus Berenato said. "I think the fans were excited to see our new team in action and I'm looking forward to getting the season underway."
Junior guard Mallorie Winn (San Diego, Calif./Bishop's High/Georgia Tech) scored six points and added five rebounds and two assists, while fellow guard Shavonte Zellous (Orlando, Fla./Jones) chipped in five points, six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
