Volleyball Downs Kent State at TIS Bookstore Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ? Led by senior middle Megan Miller and junior outside Gini Ullery, the Pittsburgh volleyball team defeated Kent State, 3-0, in the first match of the TIS Bookstore Invitational at Indiana University.
The Panthers (5-3) won the first set handily, 30-23, over the Golden Flashes (2-3), and held on for victories in games two and three by 30-27 and 31-29 counts, respectively. Miller (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) had 14 kills and hit .323 for the match with a season-best four service aces, four digs and three blocks for a total of 20.5 points. Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) added 18 kills and hit .316 in 38 attempts with seven digs and two blocks for a total of 19.5 points.
Junior libero Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) recorded 20 digs for her second consecutive match of 20+ digs in just three games. Setter Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) had a match-high 44 assists and added five kills, two digs and two blocks for the Panthers. Freshman outside Diana Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) hit .292 for the match with 11 kills and four errors in 24 swings. Andreyko also chipped in six digs and a block solo defensively.
Kent State was led by Danielle Holt, with 15 kills and seven digs, and Sarah Wilber had a match-high six block assists for the Golden Flashes.
Pittsburgh will face Alabama and host Indiana tomorrow in its final two matches of the TIS Bookstore Invitational. The Crimson Tide and Hoosiers played in the second match on Friday evening.
