PITTSBURGH
Negrych (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis), the 2004 Big East Rookie of the Year, led the Panthers to a 38-18 record during the regular season and their first trip to the conference tournament since 2000. A second-team All-Big East selection, Negrych finished among the conference?s leaders in numerous categories and became Pittsburgh?s first Freshman All-American.
A starter in 55 of the Panthers? 56 games, he tied the single-season school record for hits (76) and broke the mark for doubles (20) this past year. The team?s top hitter with a .378 batting average, Negrych also led Pittsburgh in on-base percentage (.464), multiple-hit games (22) and walks (33).
For the season, Negrych led the Panthers to the Big East Championships for the first time since 2000 and the most wins in a season (38) since 1995. Pittsburgh finished with a 38-18 record and tied for second in the conference with 17 league wins, which also was a school record.
