Softball Falls To Boston College In A Big East Doublehader

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-The University of Pittsburgh dropped a Big East doubleheader to Boston College Saturday afternoon, 3-2, and 3-0, in the Panthers last weekend of regular season play.
Boston College (33-22, Big East 11-9) got on the board early in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Pittsburgh (21-36, 3-15) would tie the score in the third as Heather Andrews (Zelienople, Pa./Riverside) connected on a RBI single to left center field. The Eagles would answer back in their half of the inning, posting their final two runs of the game.
Jessica Thomas (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) scored on an unearned run in the top of the fifth to pull the Panthers within one, but solid pitching from Boston College kept Pittsburgh from crossing the plate to tie the game. Thomas went 2-for-2 at the plate in game one.
Laura Belardinelli (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) pitched the complete game and allowed eight hits for three runs, while striking out three and walking one.
In game two, Boston College posted its three runs of the game in the third inning. Kimmy Hopkin accounted for two of the Eagles runs as she connected on a two-run home run.
Casey Pickard (Newhall, Calif./William S. Hart) connected on her 13th double of the season in the top of the seventh for Pittsburgh. With the hit, Pickard ties Francesca DiMaria?s (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) single season record set in 2003.
In the loss, Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, Texas/Humble) pitched the complete game, allowing five hits for three runs, while walking three.
The Panthers travel to Connecticut Sunday, May 9 for its final game of the 2004 season. Game time for the Mother?s Day doubleheader is set for 11 a.m.
