Men's Swimming & Diving Announces Signing of Warren Barnes
5/24/2004
PITTSBURGH ? Head swimming and diving coach Chuck Knoles announced the signing of Warren Barnes to a National Letter of Intent today. Barnes joins three other freshmen signed during the fall period for the 2004-05 season.
Barnes (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton) has placed in the top six at Canadian Nationals in each of the past three years. He is a former Canadian Junior National Champion in the 100 meter breaststroke and will compete for a spot at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, this summer when he attends the Canadian Olympic Trials.
"Warren is a seasoned national and international swimmer," Knoles said. "He should be able to come in and make significant contributions to the team?s attempt to win a ninth consecutive Big East Championship.?
The three fall signees included David Anderson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill), Chris George (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) and Jeremy Stultz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills).
The Panthers won their eighth consecutive Big East title this past season, the 19th conference championship in the past 22 years, the most of any Big East team in any sport.
