Softball Falls To No. 25 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-The University of Pittsburgh (20-33, 3-13 Big East) fell to No. 25 Notre Dame (44-14, 16-0) Sunday in a Big East doubleheader. The Fighting Irish defeated the Panthers, 8-0, in six innings in game one and 9-0 in five innings in game two.
The Panthers connected on six hits in the two games, including a double by Casey Pickard (Newhall, Calif./William S. Hart). It was Pickard?s 12th double of the season, a new career high for the junior. Senior Heather Andrews (Zelienople, Pa./Riverside) recorded a career-best 29th hit of the season against the Fighting Irish.
On the mound, Laura Belardinelli (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) pitched 5.2 innings in game one and allowed 13 hits for eight runs (five earned), striking out one and walking four. In game two, Meghan Bostick (Colleyville, Texas/Grapevine) allowed 10 hits for nine runs (eight earned) while striking out two and walking three.
The Panthers are in action again Tuesday, May 4 when they travel to Robert Morris University. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
