Pittsburgh Defeats Connecticut, 5-2, in First Game on Sunday

Pittsburgh grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Peter Parise laced a one-out single to center field and scored one batter later as Mike Scanzano drove him in with a double to left field. Scanzano then scored on an RBI-single by David Cline.
Jeff Hourigan trimmed the lead to 2-1 with an RBI-double in the top of third. However, the Panthers got that run back in the bottom of the inning as Jim Negrych connected on his seventh home run of the season.
Once again, Connecticut cut the advantage to one run, 3-2, in the fifth inning, but Tom Cashman came right back with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame to again give Pittsburgh a two-run lead (4-2).
A solo home run by Alex Rybczak to begin the sixth inning was the final run of the game as the Panthers even the series at 1-1.
Andrew Kuss picked up the win, working 4.1 innings and striking out four batters. T.J. Gornati came on to earn the save, pitching the final 2.2 innings and giving up no runs and two hits.
