HOMESTEAD, Fla.--The University of Pittsburgh baseball team earned its first shutout of the season when it blanked Mount St. Mary's, 8-0, in the Homestead Challenge.
Freshman pitcher Paul Nardozzi (Victor, NY/Victor) earned his first career Pittsburgh victory by tossing five innings and allowing only two hits while striking out eight Mount hitters.
Pittsburgh (5-2) had another solid offensive game as it registered eight runs on 12 hits.
Redshirt senior P.J. Hiser (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown CC) lead the Panthers with his two-for-three performance from the plate that included his fourth homerun of the season. Hiser finished the game with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Sophomore centerfielder Ben Copeland (Bradford, PA/Bradford) continued his hot hitting streak as he registered two hits in four at bats, recorded an RBI and stole a base.
The Panthers return to action Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. when they take on Florida International in the fifth game of the Homestead Challenge at Homestead Sports Complex.
