HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-In the second meeting between the two teams at the Ramada Inn Marshall Spring Classic, Heather Connor (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) swatted her first career double and triple en route to Pittsburgh?s 5-2 win over Cleveland State Sunday afternoon.
With Cleveland State up 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Pittsburgh (6-8) would take a 3-2 lead. Beth Gill (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) singled, driving in runners from second and third to tie the game. Christa Hunter (Sacramento, Calif./Hiram Johnson West) later drove in Gill from third to give Pittsburgh the lead.
Casey Pickard (Newhall, Calif./William S. Hunt) singled and then advanced to second on an error to lead off the sixth inning. Connor then launched her first career triple, driving in Pickard and advancing home on an error by the shortstop. Connor went 2-2 at the plate with two RBIs. Solid play from the Panthers? defense kept the Vikings from scoring in the seventh inning.
On the mound Laura Belardinelli (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) allowed two runs, one of which was unearned, and two walks. At the plate, Pittsburgh finished the day with eight hits, including two each by Gill and Connor.
