Gymnastics Finishes Second at Maryland Quad Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. ? The Pittsburgh gymnastics team picked up two victories and one loss in a second-place finish at the Maryland quad meet on Friday evening. The Panthers scored 195.7 points, trailing first place NC State by 1.425 points.
Pittsburgh (13-8-1, 4-4-1 EAGL) defeated host Maryland (195.35 points) and Air Force (192.8) in its final meet before hosting the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships at the Petersen Events Center on Saturday, March 20 at 6 p.m.
Leading the way was senior Alyse Zeffiro (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) with two more scores of 9.9 or higher. Zeffiro had a 9.9 on the vault to tie for first overall among the four teams' competitors and won the floor exercise competition with a 9.95. Already the school's all-time leader in that category, Zeffiro upped her total to 16 career scores of at least 9.9 points. She also placed seventh on the balance beam with a 9.825.
Also placing among the top 10 in an event was senior Erika Goldberg (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) on both the vault and floor. Goldberg had a 9.825 on vault to tie for seventh and scored 9.875 points for her floor routine to tie for fourth. Fellow senior Diandra O'Connor (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) tied for sixth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.825 and was sixth in the all-around with 38.5 points.
Junior Leila Tait (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and sophomore Lindsay Swan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) tied O'Connor for the team lead on bars with identical scores of 9.825, while sophomore Roslyn Singleton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) tied for ninth on the beam with a 9.8 from the judges.
