Baseball Battles Duke in Three-Game Series This Weekend

The Panthers and Blue Devils split their two-game set last year in Durham, N.C.

PITTSBURGH?The University of Pittsburgh baseball team continues its season as it travels to Durham, NC to take on Duke University in a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Pittsburgh (2-1) won its opening series in New Orleans and looks to continue its offensive success this season as it ranks fifth in the Big East with a .274 team batting average. The Panthers offense has averaged five runs on 9.6 hits this season while hitting at least one homerun in each of its first three games.

The Panthers? defense this season has been stellar as it maintains a .982 fielding percentage ranking them second in the Big East. Pittsburgh is one of only three Big East teams to not allow a stolen base this season, however only the Panthers maintain a perfect mark in denying stolen bases as they have thrown out every would-be base stealer.

Last season the Panthers split two games with the Blue Devils and notched a 2-1 win in the last meeting of the squads.

The Panthers begin action Friday, Feb. 27 with a 3 p.m. game against the Blue Devils at Jack Coombs Field. The final two games on Saturday and Sunday are slated to begin at 1 p.m.

Duke (7-3) is coming off a 3-2 road loss to Davidson Wednesday night. The loss by the Blue Devils marked its first road loss of the season. However, Duke holds a 7-2 record on its home field.
