Men's Soccer Registers 2-0 Win Over Providence

PITTSBURGH? The Pittsburgh men?s soccer team registered a 2-0 Big East Conference win over Providence on Sunday afternoon at Founders Field. Pittsburgh improves to 5-7-3 overall and 3-5-1 in the Big East. Providence falls to 0-15-0 overall and 0-8-0 in conference play.
Both goals were scored in the first half of the game. In the 14th minute of the game, Billy Brush took control of and finished off a flick from Dwayne Higgins. The second goal came three minutes later when Higgins passed the ball to Brush who scored on an open net. The goals were the 5th and 6th goals of the season for Brush.
During the second half, the Friars took nine shots but were unable to capitalize on these opportunities. Providence outshot Pittsburgh 12-6 on the game and also led in corner kicks 8-2. Pittsburgh Goalkeeper Justin Lowery recorded 5 saves while Chris Konopka made four saves.
The Panthers will face Syracuse in their last Big East Conference game of the season on Tuesday, November 2 at Founders Field. Pittsburgh?s seniors Billy Brush, Justin Genes and Jacob Kring will be recognized at the game. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
