Volleyball Loses in Four Games to Host Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill. ? The Pittsburgh volleyball team could not complete a sweep of two matches at Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill., falling 3-1 to host Illinois State on Sunday afternoon. The Redbirds won 30-14, 23-30, 30-17, 30-19, to push the Panthers down to 10-5 for the season.
Senior middle Megan Miller (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) led Pittsburgh with 12 kills and six blocks and added three digs for the Panthers. Junior outside Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) also had 12 kills and contributed 11 digs for the double-double. The Panthers managed to only hit .100 as a team, while the Redbirds connected at a .263 clip for the victory.
Laura Doombes led the Redbirds with 17 kills, while Savannah Knowles had a double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs. Pittsburgh's junior libero, Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta), had a match-high 22 digs, her ninth straight match with at least 20.
Pittsburgh will open Big East play next weekend at St. John's and will also play at Manhattan before returning home for a match against Robert Morris on October 12.
