Casey Pickard Earns Verizon Academic All-District Softball Honors

A second-team infield selection, Pickard (Newhall, Calif./William S. Hart) is a communications major with a 3.48 grade-point average. She is Pittsburgh?s first Verizon Academic All-District II selection in the program?s six-year history.
To be nominated, a player must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institution. The team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Pickard started all 55 games for the Panthers in 2003, hitting .285 in a school-record 172 at-bats. She had a team-high four triples and six home runs (tied), ranked second in doubles (11) and third in RBIs (31). Also a reliable defensive player, Pickard had just four errors in 396 chances (.990 fielding percentage) with a team-high 361 putouts at first base.
Pittsburgh finished its season with a school-record 24 overall victories and seven conference victories in 2003. In just two seasons, Pickard is already among the school?s all-time leaders in runs scored, doubles, triples, home runs, and RBIs.
