Roland Sturk Resigns as Head Women's Soccer Coach
1/17/2003
Roland Sturk, who has served as the University of Pittsburgh?s head women?s soccer coach since the program began competition in 1996, announced his resignation today.
Sturk completed his seventh and final season this past fall. He compiled a 36-87-6 mark at Pittsburgh, highlighted by the 1998 campaign when the Panthers won a program-best eight games and advanced to the Big East Championship playoffs.
?We appreciate Roland Sturk?s efforts during his time at the University of Pittsburgh,? interim athletic director Marc Boehm said. ?We certainly wish him well in his future pursuits. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately. With a thriving university and athletic department, we believe we will attract a strong pool of potential candidates.?
Prior to Pittsburgh, Sturk was the head coach at Regis University, a Division II program in Denver, Colo., from 1989-95.
