Miller Leads Pittsburgh to Sweep of Boston College

Miller (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law), ranked fifth in the country with a .420 hitting percentage coming into the match, came back from a slow start to connect on 10 of her final 13 attempts. Junior Sarah Rollman (Norfolk, Neb./Norfolk) had one of her strongest matches of the season with 12 kills and just two errors in 25 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage and added six digs and four blocks to help on defense.
Pittsburgh (14-5, 4-1 Big East) battled back and forth throughout the first game of the match but stayed ahead of Boston College and came through with the six-point victory. Boston College (8-11, 0-3) was down by as many as 13 points at 26-13 in the second game but fought back to score eight of the final 12 points. Pittsburgh still managed to win that game as well as the third and final game after falling behind early, 6-3. The Panthers scored the next four points and built a comfortable lead.
Freshman Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) had 22 digs in the three-game match, one short of the school record. McGrane came into the match ranked 13th in the country with 4.61 digs per game. Junior Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) contributed 11 kills and seven digs while senior setter Carrie Norris (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) had a match-high 43 assists and six digs.
Boston College was led by Katie Andersen, with nine kills, and Jessica Brizzolara with 34 assists and 12 digs.
Pittsburgh will face Providence on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House before playing its next five matches on the road.
