Wrestling Moves to 5-1 With 27-12 Win Over Indiana at Virginia Duals

In the first round of the 16-team Virginia Duals at Hampton, Va., the 18th-ranked Pittsburgh wrestling team topped Indiana, 27-12, to move on to the quarterfinals against Kent State. The Panthers won seven of the 10 matches, including a pinfall and an injury default to gain six bonus points. Individual winners for Pittsburgh were: Shawn Amistade (Washington, Pa./Trinity) at 133 pounds with a 4-1 decision, Blaise Mucci (Blairsville, Pa./Derry Area) at 141 pounds with an 8-2 decision, Justin Giovinco (Norristown, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) at 149 pounds with a 6-3 decision, Zach Doll (Quakertown, Pa./The Hill School) at 157 pounds in a 7-6 win, Carl Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) at 165 pounds with a pinfall victory in just 1:42, David Sandberg (Spokane, Wash./North Central) at 197 pounds with a 5-4 decision and Jacob Lininger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) at heavyweight with a win by injury default after just 59 seconds. Pittsburgh moves on to the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. versus Kent State, a 19-15 winner over Ohio University. Other first-round results were as follows: No. 10 Missouri 32, Virginia 14, North Carolina 30, Virginia Tech 12, No. 22 Penn State 38, Appalachian State 3, Army 27, No. 19 Wisconsin 9, No. 21 Hofstra 30, North Carolina State 10, Rider 24, Wyoming 16.
