Women's Gymnastics Falls to Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team visited Western Michigan on Feb. 18 and fell to the Broncos, 194.750-192.475. The Panthers move to 2-5 overall and are 0-3 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL).
Pittsburgh had season-high scores as a team on nearly every event, including its final team score. The Panthers combined for a season-best mark of 48.500 on vault, led by senior co-captain Becky Doll (Elmhurst, Ill./York) who shared first-place honors with a career-high (tied) 9.750. Freshman Diandra O'Connor (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) placed third on vault with a season-high 9.725, and sophomore Heather Launse (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was fourth with a season-best 9.650.
Junior co-captain Raya Mullin (Runnemeade, N.J./Triton) led the uneven bars contingent by placing first on the event with a season-high score of 9.875. Junior Rebecca Singleton (Poland, Ohio/Boardman) and sophomore Jamie Briner (Downers Grove, Ill./Montini Catholic Lombard) also earned season-high scores on bars with a 9.800 (tied third) and 9.775 (tied fifth), respectively. As a team, the Panthers recorded a season-high 48.550 on the event.
Pittsburgh struggled on the balance beam, but were led by Singleton, who earned a third-place finish and a score of 9.775. Launse finished in a tie for fourth with a 9.750.
Sophomore Jennifer Easter (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) posted a career-high mark of 9.900 on floor exercise and finished second behind Western Michigan's Christy Sassic. Mullin tied her career high with a 9.800 and placed sixth (tied). Freshman Lindsay Hunter (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) earned a season-high 9.775 on floor, while Launse earned a career-high 9.650. Collectively, the Panthers earned a season-high 48.950.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 24, when they host Illinois at Trees Gym beginning at 2 p.m.
