Wrestling Places Fifth at Mat Town Invitational

PITTSBURGH-- Two individual champions and five third-place finishers helped the Panthers' wrestling team to a fifth-place finish at Lock Haven's Mat Town Invitational on Saturday.
The Panthers earned 121.5 points and finished in the middle of the nine-team field. Penn State finished in first place with 161.5 points, followed by Purdue (151.5), Ohio University (130), host Lock Haven (129.5), Pittsburgh, Old Dominion (90.5), Franklin & Marshall (26.5), Slippery Rock (18) and Bucknell (9.5).
Carl Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) and David Sandberg (Spokane, Wash./North Central) won the 165- and 197-lb. weight class titles, respectively, while five other Panthers finished in third place in their respective weight classes, including Mike May (Derry Area, Pa./Derry Area) at 125 lbs., Shawn Amistade (Washington, Pa./Trinity) at 133 lbs., Blaise Mucci (Blairsville, Pa./Derry Area) at 141 lbs., Dan Stine (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) at 184 lbs., and heavyweight Jacob Lininger (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin).
Other Panther wrestlers included Bill Mowbray (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby), who finished in seventh place at 141 lbs., with three wins in five matches and Rob Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), who finished in eighth place at 174 lbs.
The Panthers will compete in the Las Vegas Invitational this weekend before resuming their dual meet schedule at Bloomsburg on Dec. 6 in the Eastern Wrestling League opener.
