Pittsburgh Gymnastics Places Second as Host of Tri-Meet

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh gymnastics team hosted West Virginia and Brown in a tri-meet at Trees Gym on Jan. 13, claiming a victory over the Bears but falling to the Mountaineers. West Virginia placed first with a team score of 192.375, the Panthers were second with 188.900, and Brown finished third with 183.450. It was Pittsburgh's first meet of the 2001 season.
Freshman Diandra O'Connor (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) competed in her first collegiate meet and led the Panthers on vault, placing fourth (tied) with a team-high score of 9.650.
Junior Raya Mullin (Runnemeade, N.J./Triton) led the uneven bars contingent with a second-place finish and a score of 9.750. She also scored a team-high 9.625 on the balance beam for third place (tied).
Sophomore Jennifer Easter (Dover, Del./Ceasar Rodney) led Pittsburgh on floor exercise, earning a 9.750 fourth place in the event.
Pittsburgh is currently 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League. The Panthers visit James Madison on Saturday, Jan. 20.
