Two Panthers Earn Big East Softball Honors

PITTSBURGH - University of Pittsburgh outfielders Robin Johnston and Amy Steich were named to the All-Big East Conference softball team, it was announced. Johnston and Steich were both second-team selections. The pair helped Pittsburgh to its highest win total (21) in the program's three-year existence.
Johnston, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and graduate of Carrick High, was the Big East leader in stolen bases with 24 overall and eight in league contests. Johnston started 41 of the 45 games she played at left field, including all 16 Big East contests. She recorded a .320 batting average in conference games, ranking her second on the team and was first with 10 runs scored.
A native of Connellsville, Pa., and graduate of Connellsville High, Steich led the Panthers with a .349 batting average in Big East games. She started all 16 league contests at center field and all 48 games she played in overall. Additionally, Steich recorded 15 hits in Big East games and had a .364 on base percentage to rank her second on the team in both categories.
This season marked Pittsburgh's second as a member of the Big East Conference and third overall.
