Volleyball Drops 3-1 Loss to Rutgers

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Panthers volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Rutgers Nov. 5 at Fitzgerald Field House in its final home contest of the season. The Panthers' record stands at 21-9 overall and 7-3 in Big East play.
Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 15-13 win in game one. The Scarlet Knights, however, rebounded for a 15-7 victory in the second game. Rutgers continued its momentum and took the final two games by scores of 15-13 and 15-9, respectively.
Four Panthers recorded double-figures in kills, including senior Stacy Renick (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and freshman Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) who each had a team-high 17 kills. Senior Marcia Thiesen (Chatham, Ontario/John MacGregor) added 14 kills and 20 digs for her 17th double-double of the season. Fellow senior Jennifer Nickels (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield North) contributed 13 kills of her own. Sophomore setter Carrie Norris (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) dished out 59 assists and had 19 digs.
Pittsburgh will play its final regular season match this Friday, Nov. 10 when it travels to West Virginia. The Panthers will then compete in the Big East Tournament, Nov. 16-19.
