Panthers Complete 3-0 Sweep over Connecticut

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh volleyball team improved to 17-8 on the season with its 3-0 sweep over visiting Connecticut Oct. 20 at Fitzgerald Field House.
Four Panthers posted double-figures in kills in the win, including senior Marcia Thiesen (Chatham, Ontario/John MacGregor) who had a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs.
Also in double-figures for the Panthers was freshman Wendy Hatlestad (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) who had 13 kills, and seniors Jennifer Nickels (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield North) and Stacy Renick (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) who added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Junior Heather Haff (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) contributed 11 digs and four blocks (one solo, three assists) and setter Carrie Norris (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) added 52 assists.
Pittsburgh jumped to an early lead in game one by taking a 12-2 advantage and eventually grabbing a 15-7 win in the game. The Panthers remained in control through the remainder of the match and took 15-13 victories in both games two and three for the win.
The Panthers resume Big East Conference play Sunday, Oct. 22 when they host St. John's at 2 p.m.
