Pittsburgh Falls at Rutgers, 70-56

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Panthers, seeking a regulr-season sweep of Big East-foe Rutgers, fell 70-56, at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J.
Gina Montesano opened the scoring for the Panthers with a jumper off of an assist by Monique Toney, and Pittsburgh went ahead 4-0 in the early minutes of play. But, Rutgers pulled ahead at the 16:25 mark. Though the score was tied four times, and the lead switched three times in the first half, the Scarlet Knights held a 33-24 halftime advantage, which they did not surrender the remainder of the contest.
In the first period, Pittsburgh shot 8-of-22 for a .364 field-goal percentage, while Rutgers sank 10-of-28 for a .357 percentage.
Pittsburgh shaved the Rutgers lead to six within the first five minutes of the second half, but the Scarlet Knights made an 8-0 run, which the Panthers could not recover.
Overall, Pittsburgh went 20-of-52 from the field for 38.5 percent compared to Rutgers' 24-of-57 for 42.1 percent. The Panthers outrebounded the Scarlet Knights 36-34 and registered four blocks to Rutgers' three.
Nickeia Morris and Montesano led the Pittsburgh offense with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Both also topped the squad in rebounds. Morris recorded seven, and Montesano pulled down six.
Shawnetta Stewart captured a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds, and Tomora Young scored 16 points for the Scarlet Knights.
