Men's Soccer Takes Down Canisius

Pittsburgh - The Pittsburgh Panther men's soccer team defeated Canisius tonight, 3-1, in non-conference soccer action at Pitt Stadium. The Pathers, who outshot their opponent 29-9, improve their record to 5-6-3 overall.
Defender Travis Kruse (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) netted the first goal for Pittsburgh 41:08 in to the game. The Golden Griffins tied it up four minutes later off a goal by Nate Fillmore. Tony Mermigas was credited with the assist.
The Panthers' Chad Porter (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) scored the game-winning goal three minutes into the second half. Defender Jeff Dyer (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) recorded his first points on the season with the assist. Drew Kopp (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) wrapped up the scoring for Pittsburgh off a feed by Porter at the 57:53 mark.
With one goal and an assist on the night, Porter moves into second place on the team in scoring with 11 points. Kopp is the current leader with 15.
The Panthers return to Big East soccer action when they go on the road to 10th- ranked St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 24. Pittsburgh then travels to St. Francis on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
