Gymnastics Squad Places Seventh at League Championships
3/29/1999
The Pittsburgh gymnastics team placed seventh at the East Atlantic League Championships hosted by Maryland on March 27. The Panthers scored 192.840 team points. North Carolina State claimed it's first EAGL Championship with 196.050 points.
Junior Danielle "Freddie" Alba (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) finished third in the all-around with a score of 39.175. She finished fourth (tied) in the floor exercise with a 9.85 and eighth on the balance beam with a 9.875. Alba also scored a 9.725 on both vault and the uneven bars.
Freshman Raya Mullin (Runnemeade, N.J./Triton) had the top showing for Pittsburgh on bars as she fiinished fifth (tied) with a score of 9.85. Junior Lisa Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) followed closely begind Alba on floor, placing eighth (tied) with a 9.825.
The Panthers will compete in the NCAA Regionals hosted by Penn State on Saturday, April 10.
