Panthers Take Series from Miami on the Road
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh baseball team dropped the weekend finale at Miami Saturday evening, falling to the Hurricanes 3-0 at Alex Rodriguez Park.
Despite the loss, Pitt (21-16, 10-11 ACC) captured the series over Miami, taking the Friday opener and game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The series win is Pitt's first over the Hurricanes in program history.
Miami grabbed the lead in the second as a pair of singles gave the home team a 1-0 advantage. The Hurricanes would extend their lead in the fourth off a solo homer, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Hurricanes would push the lead to 3-0 after a throwing error in the eighth brought one home.
Starter Blair Calvo threw a solid game, going 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off six hits and just one walk, striking out seven. Yaya Chentouf would enter in the eighth, going 1.0 inning with two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Panthers managed just three hits on the evening as Liam Sabino led the charge, going 2-3 with a walk. Connor Perry tallied a hit as well.
Pitt returns to action Saturday for a doubleheader against LIU Brooklyn at Charles L. Cost Field. The Panthers and Blackbirds will take part in a single game Sunday.
