Brian Bonnar is the associate athletics director for sports medicine and joined Pitt Athletics in July of 2003. Bonnar is the head athletic trainer for the Panthers’ wrestling team and oversees the athletic training staff and rehabilitative staffs at Fitzgerald Field House, Petersen Events Center and the Petersen Sports Complex. In his sports medicine leadership role, Bonnar represents Pitt Athletics as the NCAA athletics health care administrator and drug testing site coordinator. He also works closely with UPMC physicians in support of the health and well-being of Pitt student-athletes. During his tenure, Bonnar has worked with the volleyball and tennis teams. He is a 2001 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training.
Bonnar went on to receive his master’s degree in athletic training in 2002 from Ohio University. While at OU, Bonnar served as the head athletic trainer at Federal Hocking High School in Stewart, Ohio.
Prior to joining the Panthers’ staff, Bonnar served as the head athletic trainer at nearby Seneca Valley High School in Harmony, Pa., where he worked with all varsity sports.
A Pittsburgh native, Bonnar and his wife Heather have a son, Jacob and a daughter, Karina.
