Zach Breeding enters his second year with the program after joining the Panthers’ coaching staff prior to the start of the 2023-24 season as a volunteer assistant coach.
In 2023-24, Breeding helped the men’s team place seventh at the ACC Championships and saw a combined four swimmers qualify for the NCAA Championships and 11 swimmers participate in the Olympic Trials for their respective countries.
In addition to coaching at Pitt, Breeding is currently the Associate Head Coach of Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics. During his time there, he has coached and developed multiple U.S. Open and Junior National qualifiers and finalists. Breeding has also helped the team develop and produce a No. 1 recruit, No. 4 11-12 Girls’ USA Swimming recruit, and multiple top 10 recruits in Pennsylvania. Breeding has also helped the team capture an Eastern Zone championship and multiple top three finishes at the national level.
Breeding was also invited to and attended the USA Swimming National Age Group Summit which focused on revitalizing USA Swimming’s distance programs.
Graduating from McKendree University in 2020, Breeding was a three-year team captain under Head Coach Jimmy Tierney, where he helped take the team from a first-year program to multiple top 10 finishes at NCAA DII Championships.
Coming to Pittsburgh from Midland, Texas, Breeding got his start in coaching working under his former coach, Jenna Purkey, at his home club City of Midland Aquatics.
